The thrill of a bargain is drawing consumers to Atlanta Surplus Auctions in Norcross.
Global Freight Liquidations owner John Pinson recently expanded his existing store on Jimmy Carter Boulevard to include a weekly auction that is held across the street on Saturday mornings.
Shoppers bid on everything from high end refrigerators and other appliances to large quantities of toilet tissue. "Sometimes we have customers who come in and they bid and buy things for five or ten cents on the dollar. Usually it's around 50 cents on the dollar," said Pinson.
Many items for sale are from liquidations or have been returned by customers at warehouse club stores. Others are on consignment from various sellers.
Pinson said a 60 inch television with a suggested retail price of $3000 recently sold for $1200. But he said on other occasions frenzied bidding has actually resulted in auction items selling for above retail.
Gary Petmecay is a regular at the Global Freight Auction. "I like to research before I get here. They have this all online so you know what you're willing to pay when you walk through the door," he said. Petmecay said he purchased a 36 roll case of toilet tissue for $10.00 because it was a bargain, although he did not come to the auction expecting to buy household goods.
The Surplus Auction is held on most Saturdays at 10am. The warehouse is located off of Jimmy Carter Boulevard between Buford Highway and Peachtree Industrial Blvd. The address is 6385-B Atlantic Blvd. Norcross, GA. 30071.
The auction is also held online occasionally. For more information go to AtlantaSurplus.com or call 770-242-5705.
