The 27th annual 11Alive Holiday Can-a-thon will take place Friday, December 4 in five Georgia locations. The Can-a-thon is a joint effort of 11Alive, Publix Super Markets, Inc., Atlantic Station and The Salvation Army. Now in its 27th year, the "live" food-raising event hopes to feed Georgia's hungry for an entire year. With the recent Floods of 2009 and record unemployment, the Can-a-thon is needed now more than ever.
Atlantic Station has joined the Can-a-thon as a fifth location December 4 from 4-7:30 pm. Visitors to Atlantic Station can make their donations in the Central Park area. Atlantic Station will also offer special A-card discount to persons who bring cans December 4 only.
Radio station partners for 2009 who will be broadcasting "live" from 6am to 1pm are WVEE/WAOK (Turner Field); KICKS 101.5 (Discover Mills) Q-100 (The School Box-Kennesaw) and WRGA/ROME Q102, SOUTH 107 (State Mutual Stadium-Rome).
AirTran Airways is again partnering with 11Alive to offer "a chance to win tickets" to anywhere AirTran flys for individuals and organizations who bring 111 cans or more to the December 4 event at the four "live" daytime (5am -1pm) locations. Persons who bring 111 cans will have their names placed into a drawing for the AirTran tickets. No purchase is necessary to enter. Complete rules can be found on 11Alive.com.
All food collected will be distributed by The Salvation Army. Schools that have collected more than 1000 cans may be featured on a first come first serve basis in a Can-a-thon school video on 11Alive News. If your school has found a unique way to collect cans and you have collected more than 1000 cans, please contact Kids & Schools reporter Donna Lowry at firstname.lastname@example.org.
