Tangela Thompson and her children enjoy a shopping spree at Toys"R"Us after all toys are stolen from home in robbery
ATLANTA -- A family's Christmas was nearly ruined last week when their home was burglarized. The front door was kicked in, and all of the gifts were stolen.
When 11Alive's Help Desk heard about Tangela Thompson's home, they set to work -- putting Christmas back together for her four children.
Toys "R" Us surprised the family with a shopping spree Monday. When the children got to the retail chain's Buckhead store, they were told they were free to roam and pick out whatever they wanted.
"(I'm) totally surprised," Thompson said. "It's a blessing."
But that wasn't all. To protect the family's second round of Christmas gifts, Ackerman Security of Atlanta offered to install a full security system in the family's home.
"I told my father to get a burglar bar door. Nobody in this neighborhood has a burglar bar door. But now, being able to have the protection inside the home when we are here is terrific," Thompson said.
