This home was ripped right off its foundation in Calhoun.

CALHOUN, Ga. -- In the blink of an eye, a tornado, everything was gone.

Just three days before Christmas, the Sheriff family faced the holidays and the future with just the clothes on their backs and what little they could salvage from Thursday's devastating storms.

"This will probably be the best Christmas we've ever had," Davison Sheriff said. "We realize how important we all are. This has opened our eyes to what we've got."

Calling it a Christmas miracle, he, his wife Ashley, and their one-year-old son Owen survived, but they lost nearly everything.

"There are so many things we need -- diapers, wipes, necessities, everyday things," Ashley Sheriff said. "I really can't think of everything."

The Help Desk got right on it. Our goal was to get the family everything they needed and wanted before Christmas -- toys, clothing and baby supplies for Owen, and gifts and clothing for his parents.

We immediately contacted Target in Cartersville and Walmart in Calhoun. Both stores instantly said yes and donated sizeable gift cards.

The family went first to Target, then headed back to Calhoun for a visit to Walmart.

With Christmas getting closer and closer, they couldn't waste any time.

"It's going to help so much," Ashley Sheriff said.

"I'm just real grateful that the community stepped up to help us out a little bit," her husband added. "Actually they have helped us out a whole lot."

And help is contagious.

While standing at the Target, one customer came up to Ashley Sheriff and quickly handed her a personal gift card.

Before Ashley could thank her, the customer briskly returned to her Christmas shopping.
