Crime scene at Neal's Whitfield County home
DALTON, GA - Whitfield County Sheriff investigators were back on the scene Friday of a gruesome double murder discovered Thursday at a home just outside Dalton.
Sheriff Scott Chitwood told 11 Alive News they are still looking for 49-year-old Adolph Ray "Sonny" Neal as a possible suspect.
"Average fellow, you know; you wouldn't think about him doing something like that," said neighbor Eugene Cochran.
Cochran lives just a few houses away from where the horrible crime happened.
Twenty-seven-year-old Jessica Neal was found brutally murdered in a pool house behind her home on Green Springs Road.
Her 9-year-old daughter found Jessica's grandfather murdered inside the home when she woke up to go to school Thursday morning.
The child ran to a neighbor's house for help.
Investigators believe Jessica's husband, Sonny, left the scene on foot.
A search of the surrounding area with bloodhounds, helicopters and several officers failed to find him.
Neighbors told 11 Alive the Neals had only lived in the home for a couple of years and they hadn't noticed any obvious problems in the family.
But apparently something was happening under the surface.
Jessica Neal owned the Dazzle Tanning Salon and Boutique in nearby Dalton, which she ran with her husband.
Sources told 11 Alive she was thinking of going back to school to become a dental assistant.
Also, that she was about to get a divorce from her husband, who was 22 years older.
Family members aren't talking publicly, but many who knew the family still can't believe it.
"Who would want to kill their wife?" asked neighbor Cochran.
"There's something wrong with somebody like that," he added.
