(USA Today) -- Ann Curry is back in action, reporting from Syria.
"The war in Syria has reached a stunning new intensity," she told Matt Lauer and Today viewers Monday morning.
Curry, who left her morning show gig in June amid tears and controversy, appeared on Today just 15 miles from Syria in neighboring Jordan. She reported that thousands of refugees had fled the country after the war in Syria "reached a stunning new intensity."
She added that in recent days, the Syrian government had "increased systematic air strikes on civilian targets... (and) more than 240,000 have fled across Syria's borders."
She tweeted: "Good morning twitterverse. Pulled an all-nighter to bring you stunning images of people escaping shelling in Syria."
The Today anchor-at-large and international and national correspondent will be reporting live from the war-torn nation on NBC's Nightly News with Brian Williams.
